#14 Normalisation, Sustainability & Benchmarking

New here, so pardon my navigational ignorance. Is there any information existing regarding normalisation and benchmarking for energy data sets? I see the sub metering piece has been fairly well addressed..

Hi Stuart,

Getting into energy normalization is really more of a function/algorithm domain, where haystack is mostly focused on the data model.

But that said, the model already includes pretty much everything you need to do basic normalization:

Normalize by Area

  • given an entity with the elecKw or elecKwh tag
  • you can cross reference the site with siteRef tag
  • from site you can use area tag to get square footage/meters

Normalize by Degree-Day

  • given an entity with the elecKw or elecKwh tag
  • you can cross reference the site with siteRef tag
  • from site you can cross reference weather station using weatherRef tag
  • from weather you can cross-reference weatherTemp to compute degree-days

Brian,

Perhaps I should address my questions to the AREA discussion.

There exists a need to be able to categorize various areas (zones) of a site in regards to owner (base building), tenant (n), carpark, retail, etc etc. Each zone has an area, and each has consumption (elec, gas, water, thermal, diesel, travel, etc).

I will keep reading...
